“O God, come to my aid; O Lord, make haste,” so Cassian insisted we should pray: The oft-chewed syllables have lost their taste, a muted cry in morning’s washed-out gray as, elbows on my knees, I hang my head and seek the strength for getting out of bed. O God, what can I tell you?
I am so sorry it hit you that way. It grabbed my heart in 2019 and has never let me go. It's my heart book. I can't even count how many times I've read it.
I made the mistake of reading it during my first pregnancy. The scene with Kristin's first labor is just so much, and I had a very long and difficult labor with my first. I'm a little afraid that rereading it would be a lot to deal with. But it is an amazing book!
Identifying! And wowzers, bravissima.
Thank you so much! And yes, I thought maybe people could relate.
Wow! This is beautiful and I feel it so deeply 🥹
Thank you!
Ah, so relatable…
Your poem reminds me of a line in "Kristin Lavransdatter," something like, Lord, I only want this and this and this, and then this and this and this.
I haven't read KL in almost twenty years. I should revisit it, but I was kind of traumatized the first time through.

That is totally fair. It is one of the most harrowing birthing scenes I've ever encountered.
I love how the ancient prayer that seems stale and dry in the opening line reappears with sincerity at the end.
Thank you. The opening to do that surprised me when it showed up.
Oh, this is good.
Thank you!
So beautiful. Thank you.
Thanks!
Excellent as always, Kate! Thanks for sharing. A very familiar prayer and sentiment.
Thank you so much!
Amazing and convicting!
Kate, this one is one I will return to regularly. Thank you for these words. They give voice to a deep, wordless prayer within me!
Your poems are truly wonderful, an instrument of the Holy Ghost for sure. Thank you!!
